Job Title: Tennessee Conservatives Concerned about the Death Penalty Coordinator
Position Type: Full Time (Part Time would be considered)
Reports To: TADPExecutive Director
Compensation: $60,000 (+ TADP reimburses up to $680 monthly for medical insurance)
Position Description
Tennessee Conservatives Concerned About the Death Penalty (TNCC) is a project of Tennesseans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (TADP). TNCC facilitates conversations among conservatives in Tennessee about their concerns with the administration and application of the death penalty from a conservative perspective. Through public education and one-on-one conversations, TNCC engages conservatives who have questions about the death penalty and whether it is aligned with conservative principles. TNCC acts with guidance and assistance from the national group Conservatives Concerned About the Death Penalty.
Essential duties and responsibilities of the coordinator will be to:
- Recruit, inform, and engage conservatives in the state who are interested in learning more about the death penalty and how its application is not aligned with conservative principles
- Coordinate outreach to conservative clubs, including college and university clubs
- Assist in carrying out TADP’s media plan, including through the creation and maintenance of relationships with local and national media; speaking on behalf of TNCC; and developing media content
- Assist with social media and web accounts, using strategic messaging to diversify outreach efforts and messaging
- Participate in legislative advocacy that highlights conservative concerns about the continued used of the death penalty
Characteristics and qualifications:
- Personal commitment to death penalty repeal, representing the organization statewide with a high level of professionalism
- Familiarity with the political and cultural landscape of Tennessee, including the region’s conservative communities
- Experience and familiarity working with conservatives on issue-based campaigns
- Strong listening, persuasion, and facilitation skills
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently, navigate obstacles, discern priorities, meet competing deadlines, and manage a number of tasks and projects simultaneously
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects
- Excellent work ethic and flexibility; creative problem-solving skills
- Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and a high level of comfort with Zoom and social media. Graphic design experience preferred. Need access to a reliable compute
This position involves travel around Tennessee to attend events, connect with community members, and various other tasks, as needed. This position requires that the candidate is comfortable spending extended periods of time outside to conduct community outreach and events. This role will require willingness to occasionally work on weeknights.
